Hurricane Irene Update:

The northern villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon will have a long recovery, similar to the Hurricane Isabel event in 2003 and Emily in 1993.  To that end, we are starting to look at long term needs, and many of them will involve assistance in areas such as housing, utilities and well as other basic needs.  If you or someone you know would like to make donation to a local organization, here are two that have long history of service to the community and already serve needs (year round) as described above.  Both are non-profit and tax deductible.

The CHEF is part of the island's Cape Hatteras Electric Coop and guidelines for disbursing these funds shall be based on individuals and families who are suffering unusual or unexpected problems and are in grave need of assistance. Grants may be used to pay for shelter, clothing, food, health care, emergencies, and other humane needs.
